Quince liqueur
Quinces have already acquired a rarity value in South Tyrol as a cultivated fruit. Unfortunately, they serve very well as a host for the fire blight pathogen. This dreaded tree disease is easily transmitted from quince trees to apple trees and causes stunted growth, stunted apples and crop failures in the latter. Infected apple trees must also be uprooted immediately. Thus, the quince tree is disliked in the apple country of South Tyrol. In some areas in Italy, however, the quince can still be found. Among others, in Trentino and the Po Valley.
