This stone fruit is native to northeastern China and is widely cultivated in Europe in the Mediterranean region. As with any other fruit, there are several varieties of the apricot. The best known variety in South Tyrol is the Vinschger apricot. It is a rather small and less sweet apricot, but also one of the most aromatic. This variety is less suitable for consumption and more suitable for distillation.
